Motor Tanker was approached by small craft at speed which laid alongside the Starboard quarter in an attempt to board.
7 persons with arms were seen in the small craft.
The MT is in ballast and was drifting at the time of the initial approach. She started her engines and took evasive manoeuvres causing the attempted boarding to be broken off. The MT is a large crude carrier with a high freeboard in ballast.
The small craft was reported as departing in a SE direction.
Nigerian Naval vessel is responding (at 9.2 knots). The tanker is currently under the protection of security vessels from an adjacent oil field.
