Title: ATTEMPTED BOARDING - MTISC-GoG Alert # 068

Place: Off Brass-Nigeria

A vessel reporting to MTISC-GOG has reported that, on the 19-Apr-2016 at 1815LT / 1915 UTC at approximate position: 03 53.0’N, 005 22.0’E, While en-route from Calabar-Nigeria to Lome-Togo, via Lagos - It was approached by a small craft which came from the starboard quarter and later came alongside her port side in an attempt to board. Seven persons were observed in the boat with automatic guns . The vessel was in ballast condition with high freeboard and razor blade fixed all around her. The alarm was raised and water hoses utilized. Master conducted evasive manoeuvres which caused the pirates to abort their mission. All crew members are safe.

Place: Off South West Brass, Nigeria
The MTISC-GOG has received a report indicating that at about 0530 LT / 0430 UTC on 20-April-2016, a vessel was attacked off SW Brass - Nigeria in approximate position; 03 39.3’N 006 08.2’E. Alarm was raised and all but two crew members on board went to Citadel, the Nigerian Navy is currently on board conducting investigations and searches.

The MTISC-GOG has received a report indicating that there was pirate attack on a vessel in position; 03 03.6’N, 004 50.0’E.The information further indicated that a similar attack occurred on another vessel earlier in the day at position 03 37.0’N, 004 45.0’E (Approximately 30 nm between the two cases)
All vessels within the vicinity of these alerts are advised to operate with a heightened level of security and encouraged to report any suspicious activity to info@mtiscgog.org
