No significant events to report this week. Whilst the number of suspicious incidents so far this year remains low when compared with previous years, the intent and capability to conduct piracy still remains.

Denying the opportunity, complying with BMP, reporting to UKMTO and registering with MSCHOA will help avoid complacency.

3 May 16 Oceans Beyond Piracy released their annual reports on ‘The State of Maritime Piracy’ in East Africa, West Africa and SE Asia.

African media outlets make reference to OBP’s reports exploring why the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) ‘continues to be the most dangerous region for seafarers in the world’, how the piracy business model in the GoG is changing, and how the denial of ‘safe havens’ have contributed to the drop in piracy around Somalia.
