Command Overview
1. There are no significant events to report this week.
2. Following on from the UN Secretary General’s annual report ‘on the situation with respect to piracy and armed robbery at sea off the coast of Somalia’ dated 7 Oct 16, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted UNSCR 2316 and ‘renewed for another year its authorisation for international naval forces to join in fighting piracy off the coast of Somalia’ (c).
3. Timely and accurate post incident reporting will ensure proper analysis can be carried out in order to spot trends and changes to piracy tactics and procedures. In addition to providing a detailed post incident report to UKMTO and MSCHOA (BMP4 12.1), any supporting evidence such as video, imagery, photographs and where possible, Voice Data Recordings, will greatly assist Counter Piracy organisations in formulating a combined incident assessment.
4. The next Maritime Information Exchange Vessel Operators’ Meeting (MIEVOM) will take place at the Dubai International Seafarers’ Centre (DISC) on Thursday 8 Dec 16. Those wishing to attend should inform Lt Chris Long at: dubai-2ic@ukmto.org no later than 1 Dec 16.
