UKMTO Weekly Piracy Report - Departure of Commander Peter Harriman #piracy #marsec

1. UKMTO Dubai convened the Maritime Information Exchange Vessel Operator’s Meeting (MIEVOM) at the Dubai International Seafarers’ Centre on 8 Dec 16. The meeting was attended by 40 representatives from the regional shipping community and maritime security companies.

2. Today after 3 years I send my final weekly report as Officer-in-Charge of UKMTO Dubai. I hand over the reins to Lt Chris Long RNR next week who will act as temporary OiC until the arrival of Lt Cdr Iain Beaton RNR in Apr 17. Allow me to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to you all for your cooperation and support to UKMTO. Much has happened during my time at the helm and even as I sign off, the threat from Somali piracy whilst much reduced, still exists whilst spill over from regional conflicts and new and emerging threats have the potential to affect the free flow of trade. I take great pride in the knowledge that as a team, we have and will continue to play our part in reassuring mariners and contributing to their safety. I depart knowing UKMTO Dubai is in good hands. It has been a privilege, my very best wishes to you all, yours aye, Peter.

The ASKET Team would like to send their best wishes to Peter, and congratulate him and his team on a job well done.
