Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia

OVERVIEW

For the period of 10 – 16 Jan 17, no incident of piracy and armed robbery against ship was reported to the ReCAAP ISC from its Focal Points.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Nonetheless, ship master and crew are to exercise vigilance and adopt relevant preventive measures taking reference from the Regional Guide to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia, particularly when operating in areas of concern.

The ReCAAP ISC urges ship master and crew to report all incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships to the nearest coastal State and flag State; and ship owner/operator to report to ReCAAP Focal Points; as indicated in the IMO MSC.1/Circ. 1334 on ‘Guidance to ship owners and ship operators, ship masters and crew on preventing and suppressing acts of piracy and armed robbery against ships’.

The ReCAAP ISC reiterates its advisory to all ships as highlighted in the Incident Alert dated 21 November 2016 on the abduction incidents in the Sulu-Celebes Sea and waters off eastern Sabah.
