1. (U) Scope Note
(U) The Worldwide Threat to Shipping (WTS) message provides info on piracy threats to, and criminal action against, merchant vessels and the shipping industry worldwide in the last 30 days. This report is produced primarily to inform merchant mariners and naval forces.
3. (U) Summary
A. (U) NIGERIA: On 18 January, an unidentified militant group attacked a crude oil trunk line in Ughelli, Delta State.
B. (U) BANGLADESH: On 16 January, robbers, armed with knives boarded an anchored container ship in Chittagong Anchorage.
C. (U) MALAYSIA: On 16 January, a boarding occurred on an anchored product tanker in Sandakan Port, Sabah.
D. (U) HONG KONG: On 16 January, Customs authorities attempted to apprehend a group of men believed to be involved in smuggling jade.
E. (U) VENEZUELA: On 15 January, two robbers boarded an LPG tanker anchored in Jose Anchorage.
F. (U) DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: On 6 January, a dinghy and a 30 hp outboard motor were stolen from a sailing yacht anchored in Luperon.
