Three events reported to MDAT-GoG this week. An aborted attack on 4th, 2 piracy attacks on 5th and 7th .

04/02/2017 Aborted Piracy Attack 120Nm / 215° from Bayelsa State NIGERIA On 4th February at around 0915Zhrs in position 02°54N/004°51E. One small skiff with eight personnel armed with weapons approached a merchant and escort vessels at a high speed and opened fire. Escort vessel returned warning shots and skiff retreated.

05/02/2017 Piracy Attack 33Nm / 225° from Bayelsa State NIGERIA On 5th February at around 1025Zhrs in position 03°58N/005°28E. A merchant vessel was attacked by 3 fast boats. Ten pirates armed with automatic guns came on board the vessel. Intruders stayed about 2 hours before leaving, bringing with them electronics devices and cash.

8 Crew members were abducted.

07/02/2017 Piracy Attack 50Nm / 180° from Bonny NIGERIA On 7th February at around 1915Zhrs in position 03°31N/007°04E. VHF distress message is relayed to MDAT-GoG. After investigation, it appears that a merchant vessel has been attacked by at least two fast boats.

MDAT-GoG Comments: Last event reported to MDAT-GoG in this area was on 21st December (see Weekly Report 27-16).
