1. (U) Scope Note
(U) The Worldwide Threat to Shipping (WTS) message provides info on piracy threats to, and criminal action against, merchant vessels and the shipping industry worldwide in the last 30 days. This report is produced primarily to inform merchant mariners and naval forces.
3. (U) Summary
A. (U) NIGERIA: On 8 February, the Nigerian Navy intercepted a tanker and rescued the kidnapped crew that had been hijacked by pirates near Bonny Island.
B. (U) PERU: On 7 February, a bulk carrier was boarded and items were stolen at Callao Anchorage.
C. (U) BANGLADESH: On 6 February, a vessel was boarded and items were stolen near Kutibidja Island.
D. (U) BANGLADESH: On 6 February, a vessel was boarded but no items were stolen near Kutibidja Island.
E. (U) NIGERIA: On 5 February, pirates boarded a vessel and kidnapped the crew near Bayelsa.
