Mine Awareness in the Red Sea

In light of the various warnings and now the mine strike of a Yemen Coast Guard vessel we will ask the authorities to inform the shipping community of the following:

• What type of mines are being used

• Naval or Improvised

• Quantities available to the rebels

• How are they being laid

• Are any other areas in danger

• Are they Tethered or Drifting

• Surface or subsurface

• Contact/ Magnetic/ Acoustic or other

• Are they likely to drift in shipping lanes

• What countermeasures are in place

• What should MASTERs be alert for?
