The Sad Loss of Giles Noakes

It is with deep regret that we heard today of the passing of Giles Noakes.
Giles has been Chief Maritime Security Officer for BIMCO since 2008.
Heavily involved with the shipping industry input into dealing with piracy off the coast of Somalia and other piracy "hot spots" and providing security services/advice. Representing interests at the IMO, the CGPCS, the EU and many other business and academic fora.
Intimately involved in the drafting and updating of much of the current and past counter Piracy guidance and a member of the drafting working group of the ISO 28007 - Guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSC) providing privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on board ships. More recently Giles has been involved in BIMCO led Cyber Security guidance for ships, and other high risk issues from terror through to mixed mass migration, drug smuggling and stowaways, providing security advisories and guidance to members.
Giles was a former Royal Marines Officer, was 62, and leaves a partner and 4 children.
A friend to all at ASKET we thank Giles for his efforts in the security domain and also his support and guidance to us as a Company over the last 4 years.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
BIMCO has set up a page to record the many tributes and messages of condolences that are being sent from around the world. Anyone who would like to leave a message should email pr@bimco.org and the details will be added and passed onto Giles’ family.
