UKMTO Weekly Piracy Report #piracy #marsec #ukmto #insurance #pandi

1. UKMTO released one Advisory this week (see page 3). 2. It was reported to UKMTO on 13 Jun 17 that 4 skiffs were sighted, in the vicinity of the Bab-ElMandeb Straits (BeM), with between 6 OR 7 personnel on-board. Skiffs approached the vessel at speed and followed for a period of time, Ref ADVISORY NOTICE 003/JUN/2017. Ship and crew are safe. 3. On 13 Jun 17 it has been reported that a ship was attacked by a missile fired in the Red Sea near the port of Al-Mokha, close to the BeM. Indications are this incident is linked with the Yemen conflict and was a targeted attack from ashore on a specific UAE military flagged vessel. Articles (a) and (b) refer. 4. There is reporting that the Combined Maritime Force will increase their number of ships in the BeM and to the Western side of the Gulf of Aden in response to the recent increase in incidents over the last 2/3 months. Articles (c) and (d) refer. 5. In light of this, and other recent incidents in the area, Masters may expect to see an increased warship presence in the BeM and as a precaution, should consider the following: maintain the farthest possible distance from the Yemen coast, transit the BeM during daylight hours, use the western TSS, increase speed, maintain vigilance and report any unusual activity to UKMTO. We urge all shipping to adhere to BMP4, including registration with Maritime Security Centre Horn of Africa (MSCHOA) and the submission of daily reports to UKMTO. This is in line with present extant guidance issued in Advisory 003/OCT/16. 6. Despite no apparent movement on the political situation with Qatar it would appear that it is business as normal for passage through the Suez Canal. Article (e) refers.
