Operation Atalanta Flagship ITS Virginio Fasan Greets Somali Fishermen During EU Counter-Piracy Patrols off Coast of Somalia
On Monday 31 July 2017 sailors from ITS Virginio Fasan greeted local Somali fishermen during their EU NAVFOR counter-piracy patrols. This is the first time that sailors from the Italian Navy frigate have met local fishermen since ITS Virginio Fasan deployed to the Horn of Africa to become the new EU NAVFOR flagship on Thursday 27 July 2017.
Operation Atalanta’s ESPS Rayo Completes Escort of WFP Ship Al Safa Taking Essential Supplies to People of Somalia
Spanish Navy warship, ESPS Rayo, has completed a successful escort of a World Food Programme (WFP) ship, MV Al Safa, to the port of Bossaso in Somalia. MV Al Safa was chartered by the WFP to take urgently needed food to the people of Somalia, under the protection of an EU NAVFOR warship.
EU NAVFOR Watchkeepers Stay Vigilant with Counter-Piracy Exercise in Operational HQ
On Thursday 3 August EU NAVFOR watchkeepers, who work in the Joint Operations Centre (JOC) within the Operational Headquarters in Northwood, London, ran a counter-piracy exercise to ensure that they remain fully prepared to respond to any piracy incident off the coast of Somalia.
