1. This week UKMTO issued one Advisory, see page 3 for details.
2. Advisory 001/OCT/2017 was issued yesterday after UKMTO received a report from an Indian registered bulk carrier of a suspicious approach in the Eastern IRTC, the Master stated the ship had been approached by two skiffs and that ladders had been sighted. Subsequent reports in open source media that the Indian Navy chased and apprehended ‘a pirate skiff’ cannot be verified at this point by UKMTO (a+b).
3. Some Somali refugees are returning home to escape hunger and disease in the war torn Yemen, as weather conditions improve in the Gulf of Aden UKMTO has received an increase in reports of sightings of migrant vessels in the area (c).
4. The recent announcement that the Combined Maritime Force (CMF) will focus its naval force on protecting the region in the Gulf of Aden and Bab el Mandeb was reported by regional press this week (e)
