We are pleased to announce to Ship-owners, Operators and Masters of Liberian flagged vessels the release of the new Cyber & Ship Security Computer Based Training (CBT) CD developed by the Liberian Registry.

This CD contains important familiarization and knowledge that seafarers and shoreside staff require when working with vessels – from new threats such ascyber-security, as well as best practices pertaining to piracy, armed robbery, stowaways and general ship security.

Using state-of-the-art computer based tools, the training CD offers a concise, multimedia-rich, interactive self-learning course. Whether on land or at sea, the Cyber & Ship Security training CD provides an effective tool to increase the competence, confidence and preparedness of your ship Masters and their crew.

The Cyber and Ship Security Computer-Based Training fulfills the requirements of STCW security awareness training (Part A Chapter VI A-VI/6) , and the Liberian Registry's Seafarer Certification and Documentation Department will accept completion for its security awareness special qualification.

This globally based training CD will replace the current Somalia based Anti-Piracy Best Management Practices (BMP) CBT.

In recent years, it has become apparent that maritime companies, ships, and ports are not adequately protected from security threats. IMO has issued a resolution giving shipowners and managers until 2021 to incorporate cyber-risk management into their ship safety plans. And the Liberian Registry has taken the typically proactive approach for which it has become renowned by launching a cyber and ship security computer based training program that provides a comprehensive overview of cyber-security issues, including concepts such as malware, network security, identity theft, risk management, and other common threats to maritime security.

The CBT program also provides a comprehensive overview of common maritime security threats, including anti-piracy, stowaways, the risk of criminal activity, threats to ship security, port-based drug-trafficking risks, security roles and responsibilities on board, and an introduction to the ISPS code.

The sea has always been a potentially hazardous and dangerous working environment. This state-of-the-art training will improve maritime safety and security knowledge and reduce risk to seafarers, vessels and companies.

Our computer based training is divided into 4 modules with ongoing evaluation through a series of questions. Once the seafarer scores over 80% on every module, a training certificate will be generated.

CYBER-SECURITY TRAINING

* Cyber-attacks have been identified as among the most serious emerging threats to the security of today's shipping industry. Over 40% of crew members report sailing on a vessel that has become infected with a virus or malware - and only 1 in 8 crewmembers have received cyber-security training. This module provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving field of cyber-security; including concepts such as different types of malware, network security, identity theft, and risk management.

STOWAWAY TRAINING

* Roughly 2,000 stowaways are caught each year hiding on ships. This module provides a comprehensive overview of stowaways; including prevention, relevant regulations, specific risk assessments, ISPS requirements, and best management practices to prevent stowaways.

ANTI-PIRACY TRAINING

* Since 2009, there has been an average of 317 pirate attacks against ships worldwide each year. This module provides a comprehensive overview of anti-piracy measures; including detailed courses of action that are designed to assist shipmasters and their crews on preventing and suppressing acts of piracy and armed robbery against their ships.

GENERAL SECURITY TRAINING

* In recent years it has become apparent that no matter the size of the organization, maritime companies, ships, and ports are not adequately protected from security threats. This module provides a comprehensive overview of common maritime security threats; including risk of criminal activity, threats to ship security, port-based drug trafficking risks, security roles and responsibilities onboard, and an introduction to the ISPS code.
