1. (U) Scope Note

1. (U) The Worldwide Threat to Shipping (WTS) message provides information on piracy threats to, and criminal action against or that involves merchant vessels, the shipping industry, and other maritime stakeholders worldwide in the last 30 days. This report is produced primarily to inform merchant mariners and naval forces.

3. (U) Summary

A. (U) NIGERIA: On 25 October, pirates boarded laden tanker underway 54 nm south-southwest of Bonny.

B. (U) INDONESIA: On 25 October, four robbers armed with knives boarded an anchored LPG tanker in Cilacap Anchorage.

C. (U) YEMEN: On 24 October, a wooden vessel near Socotra Island, was attacked.

D. (U) NIGERIA: On 21 October, pirates attacked container ship DEMETER south of Port Harcourt.

E. (U) VENEZUELA: On 20 October, five robbers boarded a tanker in Puerto Jose Anchorage.

F. (U) NIGERIA: On 20 October, a vessel was attacked 50 nm south of Port Harcourt.

G. (U) YEMEN: On 20 October, an Iranian vessel with 19 sailors onboard was seized near Socotra Island by local fishermen.

H. (U) INDONESIA: On 17 October, two robbers boarded underway bulk carrier 9 nm northwest of Todang, Bintan Island.
