Five events have been reported to MDAT-GoG this week.

10/11/2017
BOARDING
240°/18NM from Brass, NIGERIA
At 13:42ZHrs in position 04°15N – 005°36E, a merchant vessel reported a boarding attempt on an anchored tug near her position by a speedboat with 5 to 6 armed personnel. They tried to board the vessel at least five times. They aborted and left when Nigerian Navy ship arrived. MDAT-GoG comment:

KIDNAP
200°/20NM from Bonny, NIGERIA
At 08:16ZHrs in position 04°07N – 007°00E, a merchant vessel was attacked by one speedboat with at least 5 POB. Pirates abducted 10 crew members before they left the vessel. Later, speedboat was reported capsized. Both pirates and abducted were rescued by Nigerian Navy ships. Due to injuries, two seamen were carried to Port Harcourt.

ROBBERY
150°/2NM from Praia, CAPE VERDE
At an unknown hour near position 14°53N – 023°30W, a sailing yacht at anchor was boarded by three robbers armed with knives. They threatened the crew and tied the owner to the mast. They stole crew’s belongings before they escape with the yacht’s dinghy. Owner managed to get untied and advised local authorities, which resulted in the arrest of one robber. The two others escaped.

BOARDING
200°/60NM from Bonny, NIGERIA
At 09:45ZHrs in position 03°30N – 006°46E, a merchant tanker reported a boarding attempt. A white hulled speedboat with 7 POB tried to board the vessel with ladders. Due to freeboard, pirates aborted the boarding after 5 minutes.

ATTACK
215°/20NM from Bonny, NIGERIA
At 11:00ZHrs in position 04°07N - 006°57E, a merchant vessel was attacked. All crew mustered in the citadel. A Nigerian Navy team boarded the vessel, but pirates had already left the vessel. Crew and vessel are safe.
