Five events have been reported to MDAT-GoG this week.

21/11/2017
BOARDING
220°/5NM from Lagos, NIGERIA
At 00:50ZHrs in position 06°19N – 003°11E, an anchored merchant tanker reported a boarding attempt by unknown persons using hook ropes on board two small boats. Patrol boat in vicinity closed the merchant vessel, then small boats fled away.

SIGHTING
180°/1NM from Abidjan, CÔTE D’IVOIRE
At 21:40ZHrs in position 05°13N – 004°03W, an anchored merchant vessel was approached at 20yds by a small boat (fishing boat type) with at least 13 POB. Port control was informed and assistance was provided. Suspicious boat left the area before Navy vessel arrived.
MDAT-GoG comment: This event refers to Advisory 005/NOV/17, as a boarding attempt. Incident has been downgraded to a sighting.

SUSPICIOUS APPROACH
180°/80NM from Bonny, NIGERIA
At 02:35ZHrs in position 03°04N – 006°59W, a merchant vessel was followed by one speedboat with 3 POB. Speedboat closed merchant vessel to 100yds. Alarm was raised and vessel started evasive manoeuvers. Speedboat aborted the chase after 2 hours. Nigerian Navy attempted to assist the merchant vessel, but the speed boat had left the scene.
