UKMTO Weekly Piracy Report #piracy #marsec #ukmto #insurance #pandi

1. This week UKMTO issued no warnings or advisories.

2. In India this week the crew of the anti-piracy ship, MV Seaman Guard Ohio were acquitted of weapons charges. Articles (a), (b) and (c) refer.

3. The endeavours to bring pirates to justice within the judiciary system continues through international cooperation. EUNAVFOR and Somalian officials visited the Seychelles to strengthen this cooperation, as demonstrated with the recent detention of pirates off the coast of Somalia. See articles (d), (e) and (f) for further information.

4. The regular anti-piracy SHADE meeting took place in Bahrain, article (g) refers. It highlighted the need for speedy and accurate reporting by vessels, in line with BMP4 (copy at the following link http://bit.ly/2ifzmAu), should they encounter anything suspicious or feel their ship is under threat. ALL details MUST be given in the initial phone call in order that an assessment of the situation can be made to ensure the appropriate action is taken to assist the ship.

5. UKMTO held our regular MIEVOM meeting in Dubai. My thanks to all the staff who ensured that the event ran smoothly and to the speakers who gave up their time to deliver very informative briefs. The presentations and minutes will be available on the UKMTO website shortly.
