Two events have been reported to MDAT-GoG this week:

01/02/18 (UPDATE)
POSSIBLE HIJACK
140°/6NM from Cotonou, BENIN
Update: According to reports, merchant vessel would have been released. No information on vessel or crew status. At 04:00ZHrs in position 06°16N-002°30E, a merchant tanker was reported missing from Cotonou anchorage.
No contact has been established with the ship.

02/02/18
THEFT
090°/1NM from Takoradi, GHANA
At 02:50ZHrs in position 04°54N – 001°43W, a merchant vessel was boarded by two thieves. Alarm was raised and thieves then jumped overboard. They fled away on board a boat in which three other men waited. Some ship’s properties were reported stolen. Crew and vessel are safe.

SUSPICIOUS APPROACH
190°/56NM from Bonny, NIGERIA
At 13:18ZHrs in position 03°28N – 006°56E, a merchant vessel was approached by one skiff at 0.8NM. MV Armed Security Team was in position,then skiff reduced speed before turning away.
Crew and vessel are safe.

ATTACK
210°/45NM from Bonny, NIGERIA
At around 10:30ZHrs in position 03°43N – 006°45E, a merchant vessel was attacked by unknown assailants. Vessel sent SSAS distress alarm and relayed MAYDAY on VHF16. Investigations are in progress.
