1. (U) Scope Note

1. (U) The Worldwide Threat to Shipping (WTS) message provides information on threats to merchant vessels, the shipping industry, and other maritime stakeholders worldwide in the last 30 days. This report is produced primarily to inform merchant mariners and naval forces.

2. (U) Warnings and Advisories:

A. (U) UKMTO ADVISORY NOTICE 005/JUL/2018: Incident Description: UKMTO received a report that an incident occurred to a MV on 24 July 2018 at 2130 UTC in position 14:47N - 041:44E. Vessels transiting the area are advised to exercise caution and adhere to BMP5. No further information is available at this time. B. (U) UKMTO ADVISORY NOTICE 004/JUL/2018: Category: Attack. Description: On 22 July 2018 at 1422 UTC a MV in position 01:06N - 044:02E in vicinity of Baraawe Port, southwest of Mogadishu, reported being under attack. Attack has now ceased. The MV is now safe and in the port of Baraawe. Vessels transiting the area are advised to exercise extreme caution. Source: Reported to UKMTO via email. C. (U) MDAT-GoG Advisory 002/JUL/2018: Category: Suspicious approach. Description: On 22 July 2018 at 1350 UTC in position 01:30N - 001:15E, 274 nm southeast of Takoradi, Ghana, an MV was approached by a blue and white fishing vessel. Fishing vessel launched 2 skiffs which approached MV and attempted to board. MV conducted evasive maneuvers preventing skiffs getting within 0.5 nm. Vessel is safe. 3. (U) Summary

A. (U) RED SEA: On 25 July, two Saudi Arabia-flagged oil tankers were attacked 70 nm west of Hodeidah, Yemen.

B. (U) UNITED STATES: On 25 July, China’s COSCO Shipping Lines was hit by an apparent cyber-attack that caused a ‘network breakdown’ within its Americas region.

C. (U) VIETNAM: On 24 July, authorities discovered 35 kilograms of heroin hidden in a shipping container of imported scrap steel in the port of Cai Mep.

D. (U) GULF OF GUINEA: On 22 July, a merchant vessel was approached by a blue and white fishing vessel 274 nm southeast of Takoradi, Ghana.

E. (U) SOMALIA: On 22 July, a merchant vessel in the vicinity of Baraawe Port reported being under attack.

F. (U) GREAT BRITAIN: On 20 July, authorities intercepted S/Y MARCIA off the southwest coast of the country. A search of the vessel revealed two tons of cocaine.

G. (U) PHILIPPINES: On 19 July, authorities arrested two persons at the port of Samar, Visayas, while the two were attempting to smuggle firearms and ammunition.

H. (U) BANGLADESH: On 19 July, robbers boarded a Panama-flagged container ship anchored in Chittagong Outer Anchorage.

I. (U) CHILE: On 18 July, authorities intercepted two fishing vessels on the same day conducting illegal fishing activities in the Corral region.

J. (U) UNITED STATES: On 11 July, authorities intercepted a vessel near Miami, Florida. A search of the vessel revealed 496 pounds of marijuana.

K. (U) SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES: On 11 June, a robber boarded a sailing yacht anchored in Salt Whistle Bay.

L. (U) SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES: On 11 June, in a second incident, a robber boarded a sailing yacht anchored in Salt Whistle Bay.

M. (U) SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES: On 4 June, a robber boarded a catamaran anchored in South Glossy Bay.
