ATTACK

21/02/19

150°/34Nm from Bonny Island, NIGERIA On the 21st FEB 19 at 1220UTC, a vessel was attacked in position 03°54N – 007°26E. Further information collected suggests that the attack occurred 2 or 3 hours earlier, 1220UTC was the time when the crew came out of the citadel. MDAT-GOG comment: This event refers to WARNING 001/FEB/19

ATTACK

21/02/19

193°/80Nm from Brass, NIGERIA

On 21st February 2019, at about 0016Z in position 02°59’30”N – 005°56’36”E, a speedboat approached from port quarter, tried to board from port beam and then from port quarter but didn’t succeed due to evasive maneuvering. The second violent attempt was from the starboard beam and shots were fired towards vessel bridge.

They failed to board and left. No crew were injured.

MDAT-GOG comment: This event was a time late report and no Advisory notice or Warning Notices were released.

THEFT ATTEMPT

13/02/19

Onne Port, NIGERIA

On the 13th February 2019, at about 2240Z when berthed in Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), ONNE PORT, Rivers state, an Offshore Supply Vessel (NAME WITHHELD) sent a distress call after 4 unknown persons gained access to the vessel by canoe. The ONNE port navy has been informed and responded to the alert, which led to the arrest of 3 suspects, one jumped into water and escaped. The suspects were caught with six batteries suspected to have been stolen from the vessel.

THEFT ATTEMPT

13/02/19

Onne Port, NIGERIA

On the 13th February 2019, at about 0210Z, when berthed in federal Light Terminal (FLT), ONNE PORT, Rivers state, Nigeria, an Offshore Supply Vessel (NAME WITHHELD), was approached by one canoe. The sea thieves climbed on board the OSV undetected by the crew in ISPS duty.

The port security services spotted the canoe and alerted the Nigerian Navy. As soon as the Navy patrol boat approached the sea thieves escaped on board the canoe chased by Navy. The sea thieves jumped into the water and swam to the bank and escaped. Tins of paint were found in the canoe.
