HIJACK

05/05/2019

239/48 Nm off Luba, Equatorial Guinea

On the 05th May at 1216UTC in position 03°03.2N - 007°52.3E, an MV (NAME WITHHELD) has relayed to MDAT - GoG a distress call from an MV (NAME WITHHELD) who was attacked by pirates and considered as hijacked. The Spanish Navy and Equato-Guinean Navy have coordinated successfully a joint operation in order to release the ship and the crew. The ship and crew were released safely on the 06th May and they have joined under escort Malabo port.

MDAT Comment: This event refers to WARNING 002/MAY/19.

HIJACK

235/42 Nm off Luba, Equatorial Guinea

On the 05th May at 1200UTC in position 03°04N - 007°59E, a tug (NAME WITHHELD) was reported as attacked by pirates and considered as hijacked. The Spanish Navy and Equato-Guinean Navy have coordinated successfully a joint operation in order to release the ship and the crew. The ship and crew were released safely on the 06th May and they have joined under escort Luba port.

MDAT Comment: This event refers to WARNING 003/MAY/19.

ATTACK

03/05/2019

230/137NQ off Bonny, NIGERIA

On the 03rd May at 2050UTC, an MT(NAME WITHHELD) was attacked by a skiff in position 02°54.50N - 005°24.40E. Shots were fired. The MT performed evasive manœuvres, increased speed and finally the pursuit ended with skiff falling behind. Vessel and crew were reported safe.

THEFT

07/05/19

Port of Onne, NIGERIA

On the 07th May at between 0230UTC and 0300UTC, a supply vessel (NAME WITHHELD) had been boarded by two people from a canoe. The intruders were spotted by a duty AB and fled while alarm was raised. It had been reported later that the intruders had boarded another vessel nearby, probably before this event and had stolen some ship’s equipments. Crew and ship were reported safe.

THEFT

03/05/2019

SAA ANCHORAGE Lagos, NIGERIA

On the 03rd May at 0010UTC, at Lagos SAA ANCHORAGE, a duty AB on routine rounds noticed two intruders near a cargo tank and notified the Officer of the Watch. The alarm was raised and upon hearing it, the intruders jumped overboard. A Nigerian Patrol Boat came to patrol in vicinity of the MT (NAME WITHHELD). Crew and ship were reported safe.
