Vessel Hijacked from Lome Anchorage #MarSec #Piracy

A tanker has been hijacked from the Lome Anchorage Area, Offshore Togo.

Reports indicate the tanker departed the Anchorage area without informing the Navy. Attempts were made to establish contact with the tanker via VHF, a patrol boat was dispatched to investigate which resulted in the Navy ordering the tanker to stop.

The tanker replied stating that it will return to the Anchorage Area but continued on its exit. Another vessel in the area reported via VHF that they had rescued a person from the water, this person confirmed he jumped overboard and is the Captain of the hijacked tanker. The Captain confirmed that the tanker was taken over by pirates.

The Navy are currently communicating with the pirates onboard the tanker and have fired several warning shots at the tanker which is still underway.
