IFC - 6 Boarding Incidents in Singapore Straight


IFC Reports 6 incidents on boarding's in the Singapore Straight in the last 3 days, mostly armed

1st Incident

20 Dec - Sea Robbery/ JAG LALIT/ Tanker/ Indian Flagged/ Underway/ Eastern Approaches to Singapore Strait

IFC received information from POCC that an India Flagged tanker 'Jag Lalit' had been boarded by 5 armed perpetrators with knives while underway at 01N 15.79 104E 06.72 along Eastern Approaches to Singapore Strait at 202335H(UTC+8) Dec 19.

Vessel Details: (Omitted) At 2359hrs, POCC updated that ship master informed that all perpetrators had left the vessel. 2 crews sustained minor injuries, no medical assistance is required and no reported loss of items. The vessel was instructed by ship owner to turn back and assist in investigation at Singapore Port. JAG LALIT was anchored in Eastern Bunkering A Anchorage at 210648H Dec 19, to assist in the investigation by Singapore Police Coast Guard.

2nd Incident

20 Dec - Sea Robbery/ AKIJ GLOBE/ Bulk Carrier/ Bangladesh Flagged/ Underway/ Singapore Strait IFC received information from POCC that a Bangladesh Flagged bulk carrier 'Akij Globe' had been boarded by 5 armed perpetrators with knives while underway at 01N 15.29 104E 03.04 along Singapore Strait at 202340H(UTC+8) Dec 19.

Vessel Details: (Omitted) At 2359hrs, POCC updated by ship master that all perpetrators had left the vessel via the starboard side. The boarding operation was completed onboard 'Akij Globe' at 210445H Dec 19. No sign of any unauthorized subject found on board. Some engine parts were stolen and no injury was reported . The vessel will head to Pilot Johore Shore Buoy for investigation by Singapore Police Coast Guard.

3rd incident

21 Dec - Sea Theft/ JIAN FA/ Bulk Carrier/ Panama Flagged/ Underway/ Eastern Approaches to Singapore Strait

IFC received information from POCC that a Panama Flagged bulk carrier 'Jian Fa' had been boarded by unknown numbers of perpetrators from a small craft while underway at 01 13.9N, 103 59.98E along Eastern Approaches to Singapore Strait at 210532H(UTC+8) Dec 19.

Vessel Details: (Omitted)

At 0546Hhrs, POCC observed that the perpetrators went back to their small craft and headed towards Batam. The ship master acknowledged the alert raised by POCC and replied that no assistance is required. In addition, POCC highlighted that navigation security alert messages were broadcasted to all seafarer transiting through the area.

4th incident

22 Dec - Sea Theft/ KIM HOCK TUG 9/ Tug & Barge/ Singapore-Flaged/ Underway/ Eastern Approaches of Singapore Strait

IFC received information from POCC that a sea theft incident had occurred onboard a barge towed by a Singapore registered tug "KIM HOCK TUG 9" while underway at Lat: 01 14.9N Long: 104 07.18E along Eastern Approaches of Singapore Strait at 221429H(UTC+8) Dec 19.

Vessel Details: (Omitted)

At 221429H Dec, POCC observed that several sampans were in the vicinity of barge towed by Kim Hock Tug 9 (KHT 9). POCC observed two sampans went alongside barge with four subjects embarked onto the barge. All sampans have slipped off from barge of KHT9 shortly after. It was reported that some items were being transferred from barge to the sampans before they departed. KHT9 reported that they will continue to head towards their destination, Vietnam. POCC will broadcast 'NAVTEX' on VTIS Ch10 to warn shipping about potential boarding from sampans in the vicinity.

5th Incident

23 Dec - Sea Theft/ BAMZI/ Oil Tanker/ Panama Flagged/ Underway/ Singapore Strait

1. IFC received information from POCC that a Panama Flagged Oil Tanker 'BAMZI' reported on VTIS Channel 10 that she was boarded by 3 armed perpetrators with knives while underway at position 0115.51N 10407.80E, along Singapore Strait at 230010H (UTC+8) Dec 19.

2. Vessel Details:

3. At 0138H (UTC+8) Dec 19, the ship master updated that no items were reported missing and no injuries were sustained. The vessel has continued its passage to China.

4. IFC will RFI the company for further information, such as photographs and CCTV footages.

6th Incident

23 Dec – Sea Theft/ TRUST STAR/ Bulk Carrier/ Panama Flagged/ Underway/ Singapore Strait

1. IFC received information from POCC that a small craft was seen going alongside Panama Flagged Bulk Carrier 'TRUST STAR' while underway at 01 15.57N 104 07.01E, along Singapore Strait at 230120H (UTC+8) Dec 19.

2. Vessel Details: (Omitted)

3. At 230120H (UTC+8) Dec 19, the Ship Master updated POCC that 2 perpetrators were sighted onboard and the Ship Master requested to return to Singapore for assistance. POCC was informed via VTIS Channel 16 that 3 crew members were unaccounted for. At 0355H, Singapore Police Coast Guard conducted boarding operation while vessel was underway. At 0600H, all three crew were accounted for, while the perpetrators were not sighted. Vessel is now anchored off Raffles Reserved Anchorage to assist in further investigations.

4. IFC will RFI the company for further information, such as photographs and CCTV footages.
