IFC - Information Fusion Centre - MARSEC Weekly Report


Highlights:

1. PIRACY

  • 2 reported events (1 sea robbery and 1 attempted action) anchored off Panjang, Indonesia ;

  • 95 events reported in IFC « Area of interest » (AOI) since January 1, 2019 (149 in 2016, 119 in 2017 and 99 in 2018).

2. MARITIME INCIDENT

  • A Violent Confrontation occurred Off Semporna, Malaysia. Royal Malaysian Custom (RMC) involved which conducted patrol for Anti Smuggling Ops. A Royal Malaysian Custom (RMC) boat in Anti Smuggling Ops was under gunfire by unknown perpetrators in a speedboat. No injuries to RMC personnel. Case is under investigation by Royal Malaysian Police.

3. ILLEGAL FISHING

  • 13 Foreign Fishermen arrested in illegal Fishing in Natuna Sea, Indonesia. Master of fishing vessel set fire to his own vessel to avoid inspection while carrying out illegal fishing activity at the Natuna Sea.
