Four events have been reported to MDAT-GoG this week.

Maritime Crime Activity

Attempt Boarding

20/01/20

163/57 off Lagos, NIGERIA

On the 20th January at 2300UTC in position 05°30N - 003°41E, an MT (NAME WITHHELD) was attacked by a skiff with 5-6 pirates on board. They attempted to board the MT (NAME WITHHELD) but failed as the MT (NAME WITHHELD) had performed evasive manoeuvers. Ship and crew were reported safe.

Boarding

19/01/20

185/73NM off Cotonou, BENIN

An MV (NAME WITHHELD) has been boarded on the 19th January 2020 at 2010UTC in position 0508.3N - 00217.9E by armed men. The alarm was raised and all the crew mustered inside locked accommodation.

The MV (NAME WITHHELD) reached TEMA where an Armed Naval search team has conducted a physical searching and nobody unauthorized has been found. Ship and crew were reported safe.

Attack

21/01/20

180/20NM off Brass, NIGERIA

At 0836UTC on 21st January, an MV (NAME WITHHELD) was attacked in position 04°04’02N - 005°47’60E (20NM from shore, south of BRASS ) by 1 skiff with approximately 15 person on board. Gunshots were exchanged between pirates and the nigerian armed guards. Attackers fled after the vessel carried out evasive manoeuvers. Crew and Vessel were reported safe.

Theft

17/01/20

234/10NM off Lagos, NIGERIA

On the 17th January after midnight, while at Lagos anchorage and during a cargo operation, a small boat was observed close to the anchor chain with two people trying to climb it by the deck patrol. The alarm was raised on the MV (NAME WITHHELD) and the patrol boat advised. The attempted intruders fled away the scene. Ship (NAME WITHHELD) and crew were reported safe.
