Four events have been reported to MDAT-GoG this week.

BOARDING

05/03/20

180/79NM off Lagos, NIGERIA

An MV (NAME WITHHELD) has launched an SSAS distress alert on the 05th March at 1827UTC in position 05°02.16N – 003°27.56E regarding a piracy attack. Since, neither the vessels company nor MDAT-GOG have succeeded in contacting the crew or relocating the ship. A Nigerian Navy Ship was dispatched to investigate. INVESTIGATION IS STILL ONGOING.

BOARDING

05/03/20

188/45NM off Cotonou, BENIN

On the 05th March 2020 at 1245UTC, an MV (NAME WITHHELD) was boarded by 6-8 attackers in position 05°36.13N - 002°20.38E). A Beninese Patrol boat (P110 OUEME) was dispatched by local authorities in order to assist and secure the MV (NAME WITHHELD). MDAT-GoG comment: This event refers to WARNING 001/MAR.

SUSPICIOUS APPROACH

162/48NM off Lome, TOGO

On the 05th March 2020 at 0746UTC, an MV (NAME WITHHELD) has reported being approached in position 05°21’45N - 001°31’48E by one skiff with 9-10 POB. After executing evasive manoeuvers, the approach was stopped. Ship and crew were reported safe.

THEFT

04/03/20

103/4NM off Takoradi, GHANA

On 04th March 2020 at 0330UTC, two intruders tried to board an MV(NAME WITHHELD) while she was at anchore. They were spotted by the officer on watch who raised the alarm. The intruders fled away on a small wooden boat manned by two other men. Ship and crew were reported safe. Other wise, two other MVs (NAME WITHHELD) reported during the same night and time theft or attempt theft on board.
