PIRACY/ROBBERY

  • Facts:

    • One Sea Theft has been reported on a LNG Tanker in Manila Quarantine Anchorage (June 26);

    • Sea Theft reported on CMA CGM « PUGET » (June 13) has been canceled (by local authority and shipowner CSO did not receive any report);


  • Total events in 2020 : 59 incidents since the beginning of the year in IFC area of responsibility (compared to 34 at the same date in 2019);

  • Areas of interest:

    • Singapore Strait: 21 incidents in 2017, 20 in 2018, 45 in 2019, 19 in 2020 (10 events at this date in 2019)

    • Sulu Sea: On June 21, 5 Abu Sayyaf terrorists were sighted in Barangay Sipangkot, Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi onboard a white with yellow and orange stripes speedboat. Philippines Intel Alert is still active. 

    • Following anchorage areas: 

      • Indonesia: Anyer, Batam, Begawan, Belawan, Dumai, Merak, Panjang, Sandakan, Samarinda, Taboneo and Tanjung Uban;

      • Philippines: Manila, Batangas, General Santos Harbour;

      • Bangladesh: Chittagong;

      • Vietnam: Campha,  Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau;

      • India: Kakinada, Alan

- IHM

  • July 8: Two Chinese fishing vessels were captured by a joint team of Indonesian authorities, in Batu Cula Waters, Philip Strait, Batam, Kepri (Riau Islands), Indonesia on 8 Jul 20. An Indonesian crew member was found dead in a freezer on one of the Chinese vessels.

CONTRABAND

  • June 30: 4,000 turtle eggs being smuggled into Sabah's eastern Sandakan area from neighbouring Philippines have been seized by the Malaysian marine police;

  • July 4: Riau Marine Police thwarted the smuggling of 531,000 cigarettes packs in Sungai Dedan, Riau, Indonesia;

  • July 4: Indonesia has  thwarted an attempt to smuggle 9,310 sea turtle eggs from Tambelan Island, Riau province, Indonesia to Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.


- MARTIME INCIDENTS

  • July 5: An overloaded fishing boat carrying 28 people capsized during bad weather in eastern Indonesia killing at least two children and leaving six other people missing on 5 Jul;

  • July 6: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has terminated the search for the 14 Filipinos (event of previous week- 2 Jul 20) and didn't find anybody. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) filed charges of multiple homicide against seven Chinese crewmen of the cargo ship 'Vienna Wood', Hong-Kong flagged;

  • July 6: Indonesian residents threw Molotov bombs at a Dredging ship 22 nautical miles from Kodingareng Island, Makassar, Indonesia in an act of protest against sand exploitation. No injuries were reported, all are reported safe;

  • July 7: Three Indonesians missing and two rescued when a boat overturned while fleeing from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Authority (MMEA) off Tanjung Piai, Malaysia on 7 Jul. This incident was also investigated as case of illegal human migration. Download the Full Report Here
