PIRACY/ROBBERY
Two events reported:
July 26: An attempted action incident occurred on board a Singapore flagged Tug and Barge underway in Singapore Strait ;
July 20: A sea theft occurred on a Liberia flagged container ship while anchored at Manila Bay Quarantine Anchorage Area, Philippines (6th event since the beginning of the year in Manila) ;
Total events in 2020 : 63 incidents since the beginning of the year in IFC area of responsibility (compared to 45 at the same date in 2019) ;
Areas of interest:
Singapore Strait: 21 incidents in 2017, 20 in 2018, 45 in 2019, 21 in 2020 (15 events at this date in 2019) ;
Sulu Sea: The threat level has now been downgraded back to normal. Area remains risky. It is advisable to stay away from this area as much as possible or to write/call me before any transit if you absolutely have to transit there ;
Following anchorage areas:
Bangladesh: Chittagong;
India: Kakinada, Alang;
Indonesia: Anyer, Batam, Begawan, Belawan, Dumai, Merak, Panjang, Sandakan, Samarinda, Taboneo and Tanjung Uban;
Philippines: Manila, Batangas, General Santos Harbour;
Vietnam: Campha, Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau.
- CONTRABAND
July 25: Local authorities arrested five people attempting to smuggle 230 kg of cannabis off Pulau Beras Basah;
July 24: 312,450 cartons of cigarettes were uncovered in shipments from China at Manila Container Port.
- IUU
July 24: 18 Chinese fishers were charged with allegedly catching fish in waters around the Pratas Islands;
July 24: Local authorities arrested 24 foreign fishermen for illegally fishing in Sarawak waters. - MARITIME INCIDENTS
July 24: A boat with five fishermen was tossed by the waves causing the boat to be damaged. One fisherman is still missing while four have been rescued;
July 26: A general cargo vessel sunk off the coast of Penghu Islands, leaving four crew members dead, four missing and one rescued by the Taiwan Coast Guard;
July 27: Two cargo ships collided North off Dachen Island, China. All 11 crew were rescued;
- IHM
July 25: 27 Rohingya migrants coming by boat to Langkawi island have been found alive on a nearby islet with one rescued at sea. Download the Full Report Here
