1. Highlights:
- PIRACY/ROBBERY/MARITIM TERRORISM
No event reported the previous week;
Total events in 2020 : 64 incidents since the beginning of the year in IFC area of responsibility (compared to 49 at the same date in 2019);
Areas of interest:
Singapore Strait: 21 incidents in 2017, 20 in 2018, 45 in 2019, 21 in 2020 (18 events at this date in 2019) ;
Sulu Sea: The threat level has now been downgraded back to normal. Area remains risky. It is advisable to stay away from this area as much as possible or to write/call me before any transit if you absolutely have to transit there ;
Following anchorage areas:
Bangladesh: Chittagong;
India: Kakinada, Alang;
Indonesia: Anyer, Batam, Begawan, Belawan, Dumai, Merak, Panjang, Sandakan, Samarinda, Taboneo and Tanjung Uban;
Philippines: Manila, Batangas, General Santos Harbour;
Vietnam: Campha, Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau.
- CONTRABAND
July 21: The Indonesian police foiled a transnational drug syndicate's attempt to smuggle 200 kilograms crystal methamphetamine from Myanmar into Jakarta;
August 10:
Local authorities apprehended a cargo vessel carrying 650,000 boxes of cigarettes attempting to smuggle to Malaysia from Vietnam;
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence's Mumbai unit has seized 191kilos of heroin, a banned narcotic from a container at Navi Mumbai's Nhava Sheva Port.

August 8: Local authorities arrested two vietnamese fishing vessels and 31 foreign fishermen for illegally fishing off Muara Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia;
August 10: Local authorities apprehended three vietnamese vessels fishing illegally off Laut Island, North Natuna Sea, Indonesia.
- MARITIME INCIDENTS
August 5: Three fishermen went missing after a boat capsized at Elamkunnapuzha in Ernakulam on 05 Aug;
August 10: Three crew of tanker reportedly, died of suffocation in a cargo tank, on 10 Aug, at Calaca, Batangas, southwest Luzon, Philippines.
