1. Highlights:
- PIRACY/ROBBERY/MARITIM TERRORISM
Two events reported the previous week:
A sea robbery incident on a tanker while anchored at Bauan Port (Batangas), Philippines on 141000 (UTC+8) Aug 20;
An attempted action incident on a tanker while anchored at Dumai Inner Anchorage, Indonesia on 112015LT (UTC + 8) Aug 20;
Total events in 2020 : 66 incidents since the beginning of the year in IFC area of responsibility (compared to 52 at the same date in 2019);
Areas of interest:
Singapore Strait: 21 incidents in 2017, 20 in 2018, 45 in 2019, 21 in 2020 (20 events at this date in 2019) ;
Sulu Sea: The threat level has now been downgraded back to normal. Area remains risky. It is advisable to stay away from this area as much as possible or to write/call me before any transit if you absolutely have to transit there ;

Bangladesh: Chittagong;
India: Kakinada, Alang;
Indonesia: Anyer, Batam, Begawan, Belawan, Dumai, Merak, Panjang, Sandakan, Samarinda, Taboneo and Tanjung Uban;
Philippines: Manila, Bauan/Batangas, General Santos Harbour;
Vietnam: Campha, Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau.

August 10: Three Indonesian victims who had died on a Chinese fishing vessel, Fu Yuan Yu 829, were handed over to local motor boat which rented by PT SMB, from Chinese fishing vessel, in Batam waters; - CONTRABAND

- IUU
August 16: 80 Vietnamese fishermen on 5 fishing vessels were apprehended by MMEA for illegal fishing off Kuala Kemaman. Four of the vessels used a fake registrations number;
August 17: 17 Vietnamese fishermen onboard two Vietnamese fishing vessels were apprehended by MMEA for illegal fishing off Kuala Kemaman in Malaysian waters. Fishing vessel was sabotaged by its own crew and sunk-capsized off Kuala Kemaman on 18 Aug while being towed and escorted to the Kemaman Maritime Jetty. Crews and MMEA personnel onboard that vessel were safely transferred to another MMEA asset.
- MARITIME INCIDENTS
August 15: Three fishermen went missing when a trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen who were on another trawler rescued 12 of them and brought them to Kakdwip;
August 16: A Vietnamese fisherman died from gunshot wounds after a confrontation broke out when the Malaysia coast guard sought to inspect two boats they believed were illegally fishing;
August 20: Two ships with 17 people aboard collided in waters off Yangtze River's estuary at the East China Sea, three people have so far been rescued, with 14 missing;
August 16: Four fishermen went missing after the boat in which they were returning after fishing capsized at Gangolli, India. Two dead and two missing sailors. Seven are safe.
